Carbon Off Set Program

At Budget Car Rental we offer our clients the opportunity to contribute with the environmental protection by the offsetting (mitigation) of the carbon dioxide emissions (CO2) generated by the vehicle they drive during his trip renting with Budget. As well we mitigate the CO2 generated by the vehicles we use for our operations in general.

Designed to offer our clients a simple but a significant option to compensate the impact generated by the emissions of CO2 when renting vehicles, Budget Car Rental have developed the Carbon Offset Program asking the clients to assume an additional dollar - $1 - for each rent. By this action, clients are investing in Environmental Efficiency protecting the forest, helping to remove CO2 of the atmosphere and avoiding global warming.

This program from Budget Car Rental in society with FONAFIFO (National Found for Forest Financing), will asigned resources on reforestation projects with special emphasis on mitigation of the carbon dioxide CO2 from the total fleet of the company. This will put us in the place to be the first Car Rental Company in Costa Rica achieving this objective.

The average tons of CO2 generated by our fleet goes up to 2.047,14 tons a year as a result from using 225246,62 gallons of fuel consumed by our clients and within the internal operations (according to FONAFIFO calculation system).

The reforestation project is located at Central Pacific Costa Rica, in the small village of El Carmen de Parrita and it has 44 Melina Trees hectares. According to FONAFIFO data, each hectare is seeded with 900 trees what means 39600 trees protected.

The lands where the project is being executed are enrolled at the National Registered Lands System (Forest Law 7575).
